Another Super Weekend in Georgia
November
6th found us returning to Pigeon Mountain in North Georgia to
enjoy some absolutely fabulous weather and challenging climbing
at both Rocktown and Lost Wall. The weather forecast had called
for some chilly mornings, with lows dipping into the 30's, but
as soon as the sun rose above the trees, the temperature shot
up into the 60's. Warm, sunny, calm days were perfect for enjoying
the beautiful fall colors and made climbing wonderfully
comfortable.

Since everyone on this trip had previous climbing experience, I tried to
choose routes that would push us to learn new skills, test our limits, and increase
our knowledge of techniques for more difficult sections of rock. We were not disappointed
in this aspect. Saturday afternoon found us working on a section of rock I nicknamed
"the wall of roofs" as it offered so many opportunities to try and work
through puzzling roof problems.
On
Sunday we were fortunate to be the first people at the Lost Wall,
a band of cliffs located conveniently close to the road about
1/2 way up Pigeon Mountain. We spent the morning climbing on the
taller faces here, then departedaround noon for the drive home
to Florida.
