AMGA Top Rope Site Manager - Rob
Programs at Seneca Rocks, West Virginia
Multi-pitch Leading - offered every Saturday and Sunday from April
through October
This is the course for the experienced climber who has sound fundamental
skills to include artificial anchors. The goal of this course is
to transition the climber into a safe, smart and effective leader.
This course will focus on anchor systems, placement of protection,
rappelling w/backup, belay station selection, set up and management.
A short block on self-rescue will be included at no charge. We consider
this an essential component to lead climbing.
Self-Rescue - Offered every Saturday and Sunday from April through
October
This is the course that every lead climber should have. Picture
this you are two pitches up a climb and the leader falls. He strikes
his head against the rock and is unresponsive to verbal stimuli.
The terrain is convoluted and broken between the climbers. Lowering
is no longer an option. What are you going to do? First of all 99%
of all emergency scenarios can be avoided by sound decision making.
When this fails then you have to be able to deal with the situation.
The topics covered in this course are: knot craft, specialized uses
of climbing equipment, escaping the belay, ascending methods, haul
systems (2:1, 3:1, and 5:1) rappelling methods, leader rescue, counter
weight rescues, counter weight transitions and rescuing the second.
