ml1 Q: I submitted my name and information, why didn't it appear on the list?

A: A percentage of submissions for the Mail List and the Southeast Climbers Registry are received with e-mail addresses which do not work. I post the information as received, then verify the address by writing you back. If I get an error message such as Returned mail: user unknown or such I have little choice but to remove you from the list as your information is not valid.

If you send me your information and it doesn't appear on the list, either the form did not work, I didn't get your information, or I haven't got around to posting it yet. Please e-mail me the information directly at wayneb4737@aol.com.

ml3 Q: How do you manage the Mail List?

A: If I send out a mailing, and your address bounces back as undeliverable (Returned mail: user unknown or such) you will be removed from the list. You are added / removed manually by sending me an e-mail request at wayneb4737@aol.com.  Please notify me if your address changes, or if your name unexpectedly disappears. Be patient if you submit your name to be added to the list - it may take me a week or more to get it posted. Dates of mail list verification will be found on the Climber Mail Page and in the Archives section.

ml4 Q: Why don't you use an automated system so I can manage my own information?

A: Rather than use an automated system, I personally verify the validity of each address by writing you back, and add you to the page "by hand". This lets me verify the entries to be sure they are accurate. It also helps me prevent inappropriate or bogus information from polluting the lists.

ml5 Q: Why does it take so long to get my information posted?

A: So much to do, so little time. It usually takes a day or two for your name to be added to the Mail List. More important site content is always handled first, mail lists are lower priority. When it is posted, your will receive an e-mail from me with the subject line "You have been added to the Climber Mail list". There is no need to reply to this e-mail I suggest you check your information by visiting the Mail List page to confirm it is displayed correctly.

From time to time I go away on climbing trips. During these times, there is no one here to add or update your information. I typically post notice on the home page when I am away so you know why I didn't reply to you or post your information, and when you can expect my return.

ml6 Q: Am I going to get a lot of junk mail from SoutheastClimbing.com?

A: I send an e-mail message to those on the Mail List near the first of each month to keep you updated on events, do simple surveys, and inform you of significant website improvements. I’ll strive to be concise and not be a bother. If you’d like to remain listed at the web site and NOT receive these monthly e-mails, you can change your entry from the Climber Mail List to the Southeast Climber’s Registry by e-mailing me at wayneb4737@aol.com. The Archives section will list these messages and help you locate any replies to surveys. It also shows you what you may expect if you wish to subscribe to the Climber Mail list and records when the lists are updated.

Your information will never be shared or sold to vendors, though they can search for names here just as they can do anywhere else on the Internet. Realize that anytime you post your address on the Internet, it is bound to generate a degree of spam.

ml7 Q: What is the Mail List?

A: The Mail List started as a short list to help Flatliner members find each other. With time, it grew to include many others. Currently, it lists climber name and e-mail address. The climbers' name is a link to send e-mail. The climbers e-mail address is is listed with the name for clarity. I send an e-mail message to those on the Mail List near the first of each month to keep you updated on events, do simple surveys, and inform you of significant website improvements.

ml12 Q: My information disappeared. What happened?

A: The most likely thing which occurred is I sent you a message and it did not reach you (Returned mail: user unknown or such). When this happens, I usually wait a day or two, then try to re-send the message. If it bounces twice, I assume your address is no longer valid and remove it from the list.

ml13 Q: Must I have my e-mail address listed with my name?

A: No. I can list your name only, no e-mail link from your name. This provides you more privacy. I will maintain a private link to you in my mail list program.. This means robots searching through southeastclimbing.com web site will not find your e-mail address on the page. This may decrease the amount of spam you get. It also means, people will try to contact me to get to you. I will forward appropriate inquiries to you through my mail list.

ml14 Q: What does "List last verified (date)" mean?

A: This is the last time I sent out a message to persons on the Mail List and removed those names / addresses which were no longer valid. Changes since may have made some names / addresses invalid.

ml15 Q: How does the Mail List differ from the Southeast Climbers Registry ?

A: The climbers Mail List is a simple list: .Name +e-mail address. Those listed here will receive a monthly e-mail to keep you updated on events, do simple surveys, and inform you of significant website improvements.

The Southeast Climbers Registry has Name +e-mail address + state / city location, climber comments, links. It is organized by state. Those listed here do not receive regular messages and updates from SoutheastClimbing.com.

Use the Mail list if you just want to publish your name / E-mail address, and get monthly updates from SoutheastClimbing.com. Use the Southeast Climbers Registry if you are looking for partners, are willing to share information, and want to publish comments or a web site.
