What is Aid Climbing?
A: The climber ascends the rock with the aid of anchors. Aid
climbing is used to bridge across areas of rock where no hand
or footholds are available.

A: When the leader comes to a section of rock that is beyond
his ability to climb, he places gear into cracks and crevices
in the rock, attaches a set of stirrups called etries to the
gear, then climbs the stirrups like a ladder.
