Though it lies on the extreme western border of the Southeast climbing region, Arkansas is included here as it is most conveniently visited by folks in this area of the country. It hosts a small but active climbing community and is frequented by climbers from the border states of Missouri, Oklahoma, and Illinois. The climbing in this state is found in its north and west portions on the Ozark Plateau, in the Quachita Mountains and the in the Arkansas River Valley. This states southern and eastern regions are predominately comprised of the essentially flat lowlands of the Mississippi flood plain.
